Finding My Gift :: The Journey to Love

Since I can remember, I have always been an old soul. I can recall when I was in my late teen years, being drawn to the Old Testament and, most specifically, to Jeremiah and Isaiah. I loved how they interpreted and shared the Lord's voice over Israel. However, I do recall thinking, "Man, the prophets are so truthful and tell it like it is...

To The Woman Who Has It All Together

[dropcaps type='normal' color='' background_color='' border_color='']S[/dropcaps]he came up to me after I was done speaking to the group of women that had gathered at Prism :: Overcome. She spoke encouragement and life over me.   Then she referenced my talk--the bit where I had expressed some of my darkest fears--the fears that have, at times, dictated how I behaved and what I believed about the Lord. I had confessed to the women there that I believed from time to time that while God had absolutely wonderful, bountiful gifts for everyone else, I wasn’t sure if He had the same for me. Did God really love...

Let’s…Let’s Stay Together…

[dropcaps type='circle' color='' background_color='' border_color='']F[/dropcaps]iguring things out on your own. Keeping your problems, victories, fears, hopes and dreams to yourself. Keeping it all together and powering through with all you have. Proving to yourself you are strong enough on your own.   Leaning on others for support, wisdom, and encouragement. Letting people see who you are, your deepest fears, insecurities, hopes, and dreams. Being exposed in and honest about faults, failures and frailties. Looking to be accepted and supported and not judged and abandoned.   Which of these scares you the most?   In my life I have always leaned towards being an "open book." I desire...

Rooted in Our Purposes

I have been so honored to be a part of Prism Women and ministries like it. It’s refreshing and more exciting to see ministries popping up that encourage women, daughters, mothers, and grandmothers to keep pursuing their God-given dreams. It excites me to no end to be alive during such a time where the female population is continually being seen as equals to men, and the world and church are recognizing the need and influence of women in society.   Something I have struggled with is the space between being empowered to follow my heart and the practical steps to take...

Our Discoveries :: Event Highlights

Prism :: Discover  Saturday, October 10, 2015  New City Church :: Phoenix, Arizona    Discovering what God has created us for is adventurous. Prism :: Discover was a workshop-driven event where women evaluated their identities, values, and purposes to align their lives better with the spirit of God.   Here’s a recap of the day:   Worship Director Rachel O. set the tone by pronouncing her anthem, “Discovery,” over the women. The theme set by the Holy Spirit is that our God is a good, good father.   Director of Excellence Nicole Cottrell spoke boldly about our identities in Christ.   WORKSHOPS:   -Identity, Part 1 :: Write a lie you believe on a black...

Through My Eyes

[dropcaps type='circle' color='' background_color='' border_color='']I[/dropcaps] am completely in love with "The Church".  It is my heart. I believe in it as God's plan for this broken world! It makes me so excited to know that I, little me, am part of a huge move of God in this world.   When I wake up on Sunday morning I am filled with anticipation! Not because of a religious tradition but because I know what the Holy Spirit can do and that is always exciting!   I love walking through a corridor and seeing different faces, different, stories, different races, different backgrounds, different opinions; same love. The...

This Is How We Overcome

“Behold, now is the favorable time.” -2 Corinthians 6:2   PRISM :: OVERCOME: On Saturday, April 25, at New City Church in downtown Phoenix, nearly one hundred women of all ages gathered under the leadership of Christ, where event speakers—brokenhearted yet wholehearted—risked sharing vulnerable testimonies to reveal how Jesus can rewrite anyone’s story.   Just as women began to break the ice in early morning conversation, Prism’s spoken word poet Kayla Koehn approached us: “Can you hear the chains breaking?” she asked. We looked around and remembered the word God had spoken over the women that morning: they had brought with them a spirit of...

Fleeing Dungeons: On Community

“Until the day when God will deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is contained in these two words—‘Wait and hope.’” -Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo   52“I have been hunted like a bird        by those who were my enemies without cause; 53 they flung me alive into the pit 54 water closed over my head; 55 “I called on your name, O     from the depths of the pit; 56 you heard my plea, ‘Do not close     your ear to my cry for help!’ 57 You came near when I called on you; 58 “You have taken up my cause, O Lord;     you have redeemed my life.     and cast stones on me;     I said, ‘I am lost.’     you said, ‘Do not fear!’ Lamentations...
