This Is How We Overcome
“Behold, now is the favorable time.”
-2 Corinthians 6:2
PRISM :: OVERCOME: On Saturday, April 25, at New City Church in downtown Phoenix, nearly one hundred women of all ages gathered under the leadership of Christ, where event speakers—brokenhearted yet wholehearted—risked sharing vulnerable testimonies to reveal how Jesus can rewrite anyone’s story.
Just as women began to break the ice in early morning conversation, Prism’s spoken word poet Kayla Koehn approached us: “Can you hear the chains breaking?” she asked. We looked around and remembered the word God had spoken over the women that morning: they had brought with them a spirit of expectancy.
By the end of the day, many women were no longer slaves to their circumstances. For indeed it is for freedom that Christ came to set us free (Gal. 5:1). Here are some highlights:
- HELLO :: Ashley Stendera and Lisabel Elsea greet the women of Prism
- Rachel O. ushers in the Holy Spirit through worship
- Jesus deserves worship
- INSPIRE :: Jennie Forsberg overcomes anxiety by being open about her struggles with the women in her community
- BE :: Workshop 1 :: confess in writing what you want to overcome
- INSPIRE :: Jessica Bhatti knows she can ask the Father to send a thousand angels to heal her from chronic disease, but instead she accepts the greater way of abiding in Him
- Kathy and Laura
- EQUIP :: Nicole Cottrell offers us a new perspective on suffering with an exhortation that Jesus does give us more than we can handle, but He asks us to let Him handle it. This is how we begin to overcome
- YUM :: We enjoyed gourmet pizza and salad and savored homemade desserts by Kim Searcy and Kim Marlow
- Jennie and Rachel
- Rachel and Bridget
- Nichole Williscroft proclaims that God is good
- Kayla Koehn ushers in the presence of the Lord through her spoken word poem about Jesus’ finished work
- Mackenzie and KayRee
- INSPIRE :: Lindsay Stewart has allowed God to heal her husband’s brokenness by loving him the way God loves her
- EQUIP :: Renee Ronika asks us to look for Jesus in our stories, as evinced in the narrative of Joseph :: when people hurt us, it is not a reflection of our worth but of their character
- BE :: Workshop 2 :: write a word on a rock that is the opposite of your greatest struggle or fear; keep it as a reminder of what the Lord aspires for you {Luke 6:48}
- INSPIRE :: Jill Fifield speaks openly about her decisions as a single Christian
- Senta and Jackie
- Christina
- EQUIP :: Brianna VanderWeide instructs about the weapons we use to overcome, with an illustrative twist on Ephesians 6
- Maegan, Kristi, and Angie
- INSPIRE :: Claire McCarthy shares her story of loss—of a child, a marriage, a parent, a business, and a community—but how Jesus has faithfully led her toward wholeness
- BE :: Workshop 3 :: write a letter to yourself
- Behold, the overcomers of Prism
For many, participating in a Prism event is akin to having a tribe; for others, it is a safe place to share openly and receive generously from God. Last Saturday, Jesus ushered us out of our silence by asking us to share the real aspects of our stories and the supernatural ways He has rewritten them. And this is how we overcome.

29.04.2015 at 16:22I love the fact that God always leaves mystery to how He will have a day unfold. When obedience meets preparation amazing things can happen! I think overcome was one of those . I am empowered when I see so many imperfect women with the courage to share that with others and come to Jesus’s feet for His perfection. Loved this event!

29.04.2015 at 16:52A dear friend shared this event with me, and now I’m intrigued, encouraged and drawn to this ministry devoted to Jesus and the women of Arizona. I watch from this distance in Austin, TX, but wait expectantly for God to open doors to make our way back home to the East Valley. My prayer is to one day share in this movement of women hungry to share the good news of Jesus in this community. I’s a beautiful thing! I look forward to meeting each of your face to face soon.

We anticipate your coming into our community. May the Lord be swift in allowing you to transition soon and well. Be encouraged, friend, that the best is yet to come for you and your family.
